Helping Children Feel Safe, Curious, and Confident About Healthcare

Nicole Jacobsen, PsyM, MHA, RT(T) is a healthcare professional, educator, and author of the Leo Learns About Healthcare children’s book series. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Applied Learning Sciences at the University of Miami, further strengthening her work at the intersection of education, psychology, and healthcare.

Nicole completed her radiation therapy training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and brings over 15 years of clinical experience in oncology. Her background also includes advanced training in psychology and healthcare administration, allowing her to approach patient care and education with both clinical expertise and emotional insight.

She created the Leo Learns About Healthcare series to help children better understand medical environments and reduce fear of the unknown. Through storytelling, Nicole’s work is centered on helping children feel brave, curious, and confident in healthcare settings.

Nicole currently serves as a Program Director and Clinical Coordinator at Miami Dade College in radiation therapy education, where she is passionate about preparing future healthcare professionals while continuing to advocate for more compassionate, patient-centered care.
